What is Oral Surgery?
Oral surgery includes the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and defects of the tissues in your face, mouth, teeth and jaws.
Our team at Preston Dental Centre will always try to use the least invasive treatment possible. However, sometimes a more intensive approach, like oral surgery, is needed to treat a dental condition.
Our dentists in Saskatoon perform tooth extractions, including wisdom tooth extractions, as part of our offered services. We also regularly install dental implants, and perform bone grafts when necessary.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are used as part of the process to replace a missing tooth. The implant itself is a titanium screw that is inserted into your jaw bone. Once healed, a tooth replacement, such as a crown or a bridge, will be placed on top of it so that it looks and functions like a natural tooth.
Bone Grafts
Bone grafts are when your dentist adds bone tissue to your jaw, reinforcing it and making it stronger. Typically, bone is taken from elsewhere in the body. In other cases, a cadaver bone or synthetic bone is used. Bone grafts are usually done in preparation for another restorative treatment, like a dental implant.
Tooth Extractions
While most dentists would always rather preserve a natural tooth, that is not always possible. If a tooth is too badly damaged because of decay, gum disease or injury, it will need to be removed to prevent further deterioration of your oral health.
Wisdom Tooth Removal
Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars that erupt in the back corners of a normal adult mouth. However, wisdom teeth don't always come in correctly. If this is the case, your dentist may recommend having them removed to prevent infections and pain.
