What is a Dental Appliance?

Maintaining good oral health involves more than just brushing and flossing. If you participate in sports, grind your teeth at night, or suffer from sleep disorders, dental appliances can help protect your dental structures from harm, ultimately preserving the health of your whole body.

Our dental clinic in Saskatoon offers sports and night guards to protect your oral cavity from damage and sleep apnea appliances to help you breathe easier. These appliances can be custom-made to fit your unique oral anatomy.

Sleep Apnea Appliances

Sleep disorders can prevent you from getting a full night's rest and negatively impact your overall health. When you snore, your throat tissues relax and cause the airway to restrict, creating the sound of snoring as oxygen is forced past. If you have sleep apnea, your throat tissues overrelax and obstruct the airway, forcing your brain to wake you up to breathe.

Our sleep guards are designed to reposition your lower jaw so that it protrudes slightly, bringing the base of your tongue forward. This helps prevent your soft tissues, such as your soft palate, tonsils and esophagus from collapsing and obstructing your upper airway.

Custom-Fitted Mouth Guards

We offer mouth guards that comfortably fit over your teeth to protect them.

Sports Guards

To protect your smile from damage during sports, a mouth guard provides a barrier between your teeth and the soft tissues of your mouth.

Night Guards

A mouth guard will help protect you from grinding your teeth (a condition called bruxism) during sleep and wearing down your enamel. Similarly, they will help prevent you from clenching your jaw and provide some pain relief.
